can i replace vanilla extract with rose extract in the bottom recipe?

and when they say one fourth teaspoon soda what do they mean…baking soda? im trying to make layer cake…and i need a frosting on top…and i dont have vanilla extract so once agAIN rose extract
it will just taste of rose extract that all and baking soda powder
